2026-02-24 Cannot get Focuser to connect on SONG telescope 2 Mads Telescope 2 Have tried to stop/start PWI2, power cycle PW box in dome etc but PWI2 just reports: - Controller not found on COM1. Check Power and Cables - None Edit MtKent 284
2026-02-23 SONG telescope 1 oscillates back and forth in azimuth when trying to initiate it and after moving it a bit. Mads Telescope 1 I have tried to power cycle the Plane Wave control box a number of times. Home the telescope a number of times and stop start PWI2. None Edit MtKent 283
2026-02-16 SONG Telescope 1: - Azm Error 29586 Fedback level too low - the telescope cannot move in Azimuth Mads Telescope 1 Power cycled the PW box and restarted PWI2 and rebooted the Tel-com. The error continued to be there. Maybe something is wet in the dome? None Edit MtKent 282
2026-02-12 No connection to anything in the FUT dome so either power or network connection to the dome is lost, likely due to bad weather. Thus, the "Urgent" level refers to urgent when weather allows observations again. Karsten None Edit MtKent 281
2026-02-04 Connection to guide camera on SONG telescope two is lost. It has been getting worse and worse in providing good images and finally today the connection is totally lost. Mads T2 guider If the on-site team could check the power and network connectors from the camera two the PDU and switch in the dome it would be a great start. Meanwhile the telescope is not usable. If the camera is broken we have a new guider in Aarhus. None Edit MtKent 280
2026-01-22 Errors from the telescope control system in relation to the hexapod is popping up all the time at startup and preventing observations Mads Telescope Clearing will not make it go away in most cases. I have now tried to make the telescope NOT power off and on but in stead keeps powered on and will park back at 75 degrees in altitude to relax more on the hexapod. Show Edit Tenerife
2026-01-15 Errors for M2, Active M2 ... errors when starting up .... (the monitor was not running, so I started it). Frank Telescope Tried numerous times to clear the error in Astelos during telescope startup, but without success. None Edit Tenerife 279
2025-11-27 The flux level of SONG T1 is very low. Mads Telescope 1 It looks like it must be somewhere inside or before the nasmyth guiding unit since not much light hits the guide camera either. Maybe some bug are infesting the guide unit? or something else in the telescope is reducing the amount of light significantly. None Edit MtKent 278
2025-11-26 Replaced circuit breaker for SONG UPS input line Miguel (MOT), Pere None A less sensitive circuit breaker installed None Edit Tenerife
2025-11-25 Circuit breaker for the main inpout line to UPS went OFF (down). Slit open !!! Pere, Borja (Operator) Dome Borja (guided by Antonio and Pere at phone) took care to close it properly and breaker ON again None Edit Tenerife 277
2025-11-12 The door to the electronics cabinet in the SONG dome 2 seems to be open Mads Dome 2 It needs to be closed to prevent hitting the telescope or cables... None Edit MtKent 275
2025-11-12 The boltwood weather data periodically (every few to five minutes) reports values that incorrectly suggest rain. Since you are going out to Mt. Kent, could you please check up on that? Thanks Karsten None Edit MtKent 276
2025-10-30 No light from stars at all Mads Telescope I was not able to find any stars at all. Not even the moon. Possible to see scattered light in slit guider with light on in the dome but nothing from the sky. Closed down and more testing tomorrow to investigate. None Edit Tenerife 274
2025-10-27 General check of the dome elements (shuter, flaps, cables, rollers, azimuthal movement etc) plus telescope cables. OK zntonio P, Pere Dome and telescope general check all of mdchanisms Show Edit Tenerife
2025-10-27 Cannot connect to telescope in PWI4. Get Error: "2025-10-28 02:15:52.195: ERROR System.Exception: Unable to connect to Azimuth/RA axis: The operation has timed out. at PWI4.MotionControllers.ElmoMotionController.Connect()". This seems similar to earlier error when the power to the motor was somehow disconnected. Please investigate. Karsten None Edit MtKent 273
2025-10-25 Software error reported. No observations Pere,Mads telescpoe The telescope control software is reporting some kind of error with homing of the hexapod None Edit Tenerife
2025-10-21 No observations after weather improved Mads Telescope Telescope control software was not working correctly. A restart solved it. None Edit Tenerife
2025-10-10 Low flux level during some time Mads, Frank Spectrograph Check all motor combinations and figured out that the Iodine cell position has changed....? The new position is now added to the code and all should run correctly. None Edit MtKent
2025-09-19 Kept closed because of controlled forrest fires (fuel reduction burns) around the observatory Mads All Stopped the monitor and closed down Show Edit MtKent
2025-09-18 No observations during night Mads Telescope For some reason the telescope was powered on at the time where it should be started up by the software. Since this is seen as an overwrite safety prevented observations. None Edit Tenerife
2025-09-16 Full power failure at Mt Kent Mads All Had to restart everything since all had been powered off. We are now observing again and all seems fine. Temp. box will slowly stabilize in a day or two. None Edit MtKent
2025-09-16 No power in the FUT dome since 03.50 . Likely breaker switch, since SONG teleskopes also lost power, but that is back Karsten None Edit MtKent 272
2025-09-06 An error occurred during the closing of the dome flap ("the while loop time-out so the dome flat might still be open"). Jonatan Rudrasingam Servers (I think) Activated shutdown seem to have closed the dome, although not sure if it would have closed without activating it. None Edit Tenerife
2025-08-28 The SONG telescope 2 reports -Azm Error 29956 Motor pulse usage too high- and will disable motors after short movement. Mads Telescope 2 I have tried to power cycle the telescope control box and restart PWI 2 and the PC. It seems it is and actual issue with the telescope azimuth movement. Not sure if it needs greasing or something else to ease the movement? Show Edit MtKent 271
2025-08-28 Dust level was always only just below yellow limit Mads Weather station I added and offset to lower the value based on visual inspection on the web camera None Edit Tenerife
2025-08-22 Duncan and Frank adjusted the spectrograph Frank Spectrograph No ThAr light: The controller did not deliver a sufficiently high voltage - We switched to the old, non-adjustable power supply. This worked! We adjusted the iodine mirror such that the fiber outputs fall exactly on the ThAr fiber output. All modes (flat, flati2, fp and ThAr) seem to work right now and give light on the detector. None Edit MtKent
2025-08-19 No connection to IRF90 (rotator and focuser). Are power and connections to the unit OK? The values reported for the focus position have been acting strangely for days prior to this. Karsten None Edit MtKent 270
2025-08-06 MADS: For AFTER the vacation ! :-) Ghost in the machine ???? Yesterday I stopped both T1 and T2 monitors and or-scheduler --- yet, I discovered in the afternoon that the telescopes had opened and tried to observe, however acquisition always seemed to fail. In addition at the end of the night, when the sun was 3.5deg below the horizon both domes were still open!! Frank Telescope I Closed the domes manually from HW. One observation + many ThAr was obtained in the night. NO flux on the ThArs. None Edit MtKent 269
2025-08-05 MADS: I put urgent, but guess you are on vacation, so this is for after :-) :The weather is great and not errors reported anywhere - but no observations. Frank Telescope It seems that I cannot home/move T1, T2 using the PWI2 interface. Tried to restart PWI on T1 ... seemingly no effect. I have disabled T1, T2 monitors and the OR_scheduler and closed the domes. None Edit MtKent 268
2025-08-04 Replaced the mechanisms (rollers, etc) of the PST Antonio P., Hector (MI), Pere Spectrograph Installed the mechanisms we bought in advance. Need to check remotely and see how it works None Edit Tenerife
2025-07-29 Reoccurring issue with calibration light motor slide preventing observations Mads, Pere and Antonio Pre Slit Table The motor rails and bearings were checked and adjusted by Antonio but it continued to fail after few movements. I have decided to stay closed until Antonio and Hector will try to change the rail to a new one on Monday the 4th of August. None Edit Tenerife 267
2025-07-28 No calibration light through fibres for quite some time Mads calibration shutters Checked if light from ThAr and Flat came to guide unit in nasmyth which it did not - most likely the shutters in the guide unit are not activated in remote mode. @Duncan: could you please check and activate them next time at MtKent? None Edit MtKent 266
2025-07-27 No observations during night Mads Pre slit table - calibration mirror slide The same problem as a week ago with the motor slide on the pre slit table. It reports issues and cannot be moved by software. On-site manual assistance needed. None Edit Tenerife 265
2025-07-25 The telescope will not properply shut down around ~11 am local time. While the mirror covers and dome flap are closed, the dome slit remains open. The SONG mail keeps spamming that the dome was not properply closed Jonatan Rudrasingam Dome Activated shutdown and added it to task None Edit Tenerife 264
2025-07-24 Cannot connect to telescope and telescope in strange position. When trying to connect through PWI4 one gets an error: Axis0 communication channel not found. Is the device plugged in and turned on? See attachment. Duncan, feel free to call me at 91959459 at any time if you need help troubleshooting or to test something. Karsten Show Edit MtKent 263
2025-07-18 No observations during night Mads, Pere Pre slit table The calibration mirror slide including ThAr fibre feeder, solar fibre feed etc is not working. It needs on-site inspection of the pre-slit-table and specifically the specific motor slide. None Edit Tenerife 262
2025-07-18 Calibration bench stucked Antio P., Pere, Mads Spectrograph On the 19th afternoon Antonio perdormed a full cleaning of the mechanisms. Several tries. Finally Mads was able to move the bench back and forwrd and then observations resume satisfactory the whole night None Edit Tenerife
2025-07-07 Disabled usage of T2 since this is causing issues on a daily basis and most people are on holidays.... Mads Telescope 2 Closed down and turned off monitor. None Edit MtKent
2025-07-01 Testing of pointing Mads Telescope I believe I found the cause for the bad pointing on specific targets. A missing division by cosine to the declination when calculating the ra proper motion seems to have solved the issue. fingers crossed. None Edit Tenerife
2025-06-30 T2 did not home and errors where shown in PWI2 - Tracking error Mads Telescope 2 Re-enabled the motor and then moved the telescope a bit. This raised another error (motor pulse too high). I then power cycled the PW control box. Re-started PWI2, connected and enabled and then the homing went well. Show Edit MtKent
2025-06-24 Calibration light from fibre in SONG T1 was not centered on science fibre. Mads, Duncan Calibration unit The fibre outout from the calibration fibre was adjusted using the alignment screws. The alignment is not perfect but much better now. None Edit MtKent
2025-06-24 From the daily light on slit checks it was noticed that light with iodine was not centered on slit Mads, Duncan, Frank, Jonatan Spectrograph The spectrograph box was opened and the Iodine cell was rotated until spots were aligned on slit. Afterwards it was noticed that this was most likely not needed and the confusing was originating from misconfiguration for the daily check images. None Edit MtKent
2025-06-23 The calibration fibre for SONG telescope 1 is misaligned with the science fibre. See attachment Mads Calibration unit Light from calibration unit was checked on the guide unit in the nasmtyh of T1. Afterwards light was send back through the science fibre to determine the location on the guider. These two do not align and the calibration fibre should be adjusted on site to hit the science fibre better. Show Edit MtKent 260
2025-06-17 Testing the focus for Slit 8: New value is 112500. Frank Tests for diffrent camera focus values + a picture of the ThAr illum of the slit - cleary offset. Show Edit Tenerife
2025-06-17 Tested whether we can hit the slit properly again by changing the ThAr-fiber illumination mirror position - YES we can. Frank Spectrograph The new encoder position for ThAr and motor 4 is 1930000 (was 1790000). Figure attached to show the new position. Show Edit Tenerife 258
2025-06-17 Telescope and dome control system seems to not be able to read the dome azimuth motor value Mads, Pere Dome Tried to power cycle dome controller, reboot full telescope server system etc but nothing seems to make the dome work... Manual inspection on site needed. None Edit Tenerife 259
2025-06-09 An error occurred during the closing of the dome flap ("the while loop time-out so the dome flat might still be open"). Jonatan Rudrasingam Servers (I think) Activated shutdown seem to have closed the dome, although not sure if it would have closed without activating it. None Edit Tenerife
2024-07-02 Raw images of ThAr spectra show nothing from 2. July Jonatan Rudrasingam Spectrograph Added it to the task as time worthy, since the wavelength solution on Mt. Kent is stable and people are on holiday. But it needs be looked at somepoint during August at the latest None Edit MtKent 261
